People who lied in cases like this should face the number of years in prison the accused was sentenced for

The people who lied should be prosecuted, and the state should have to pay him for lost wages and suffering. I'd say a couple million.

THIS is why I’m against the death penalty. If the police can build a case against you, even on flimsy evidence, they will

I can relate to this....no ways near as much as him...i did 2 1/2 years prison and 2 1/2 years of parole for a crime i did not committ and the police and detectives and prosecutor knew i didnt commit, but it was an easy conviction because all i had was a public defender and the threat of "8 to 25 years is what you are gonna get,the came, but we will only give you 3 to 5 if you dont take it to trial" i was young and scared,so yeah i took the 3 to 5....man if i could go back and take it to trial i would have won easily...they dont care who is guilty, they care about convictions and elections...

just goes to show you that as long as the police think you did it they don't care as long as someone pays the price, something really needs to be in place for this, the poor man lost 18years, no amount of money can make up for that. well done mate x

Love how the BBC doesnt give his name. Love how the BBC makes it hard to search for the truth.... He may have been freed, but he is far from not guilty. The conviction was overturned, but not the guilt in this case, so stop with the anti_Americansim.

Give that man a mansion, a yacht, a franchise and box seats to whatever sporting event he so chooses... and then some. The court system is a joke. You can't give back time.

My first thought is..... How do you pick up your life, after 18 years behind bars ? I HOPE and send prayers to David and his Family, that he/they can....<3 🙏😘

And I bet there are many more like him thrown and locked up in prisons. Worse even for those wrongfully convicted on death row and have no way absolutely no other way to prove their innocence... for them it's a nightmare.

All he could've been, all he could've experienced just lost to wrongful imprisonment. Memories he could've made. This is a sad story. May the days ahead bring him good tidings.

The lead detective should serve jail time equivalent to time in incarceration & pay how much the detective earned for 18 years plus interest.

those witnesses who lied should be in prison , they cant just walk-away like that. this man lost his freedom for 18yrs ,

This is so wrong, my heart goes out to you my brother. You are strong and God be with you always. STAY BLESSED!

Manutskiz Akol I would make the gov and people who put me in jail compensate me for those 18yrs I’ve wasted my life in prison for something I didn’t do. Someone better pay up

I read up on this and it took way too long to free this man. I am happy to see him released but when a mistake is made our judicial system needs to act faster to make things right.

He will need guidance and should get counseling to help him adjust. He should also have NO criminal record at all, but watch them take their good old time cleaning that crap up.

For 18 years in hell, he deserves a mansion at Beverly Hills. And those people who lied or set him up for a crime should become his servants for double of times he was in prison.

More reasons why Illinois’ governor Bruce Rauners’ proposition to reinstate the death penalty is terrible.

this is very sad, I don't believe in the death penalty because of this kind of cases, it's totally horrible to spend almost all of your life in jail for something that you didn't do

The people who lied about the case should get jailed for life!!! they took 18yrs of this poor man life, I cannot imagine what he has been through during all that time in jail!! god bless this man!!

Have this man move to Colorado, California, Oregon, Nevada or Washington and give him the permits to open up an adult use marijuana dispensary. And he should not have to pay tax for the first 10 years.

After punishing all involved,I would say that government must provide him with:1- free education in any University of his choice,2- average salary combined for 18 years, 3- moral compensation to him and his family,4- free health care for him and his family for life. All that is a minimum US must do. Do I need to explain why?
