I am sick that Trump actually suggested arming teachers with concealed weapons. And institutionalizing the mentally ill. I am a retired high school teacher. I did the lockdown drills. I worried about where I would hide kids in my classroom if there was a shooter. I was teacher, mentor, counselor, and part-time parent to some. But don't ask me to also be a cop. Not only is that way too much to ask a teacher to do, but it's a huge liability for the school. What is a teacher shoots too soon? Shoots the wrong kid? It belittles cops by implying that teachers can train for a few weeks each summer and be prepared to do that job too. And, as for mental health, does anyone else remember places like Pennhurst State Hospital? I do. I had two siblings who were residents there. It was a warehouse. A horrible place. And, at the time, the only sad option. Mental health care has come too far to go backwards. What can we do? I, personally, would supporting banning assault weapons. But there's a lot more. Metal detectors. Police officers in the schools. And accessible, affordable mental health care. I live in a suburban area with many hospitals and excellent health care, but a teen with mental health problems waits 3 months for access to a program. Private counselors generally take only private insurance, and many of those insurance policies limit you to 8 or 10 or 12 sessions a year. We've got to do better!

Im sorry for his loss but if you support Trump and the republican party, you pretty much help these people put these guns on the streets. And if you didnt care after Sandy Hook, Aurora, and Vegas, then you have no moral standing now.

So how did that protection at concerts work out. How did people equipped with guns help all those dead victims in Vegas. Time for some gun control. Minimize the death toll.

He lost me when he said “This is not about gun laws” off course it is. This kind of school shooting doesn’t happen anywhere else in the world.

When did obama ever feel required to hold a meeting like this? He'd spout a few platitudes and then go play golf. Trump has to jump through hoops just to look human.

Just watched the entire WH meeting, AND THEN... heard a CNN commentator say that Trump wanted to "arm every school teacher in America." A TOTAL LIE! AND NOT CORRECTED BY ANYONE ON THE CNN PANEL. I'm done with CNN!

Instead of wasting a ton of money on gun control debates which we all know will go nowhere, why not use that money to hire unemployed veterans and retired police officers as armed security for all schools. Politicians, celebrities, pro athletes all have armed security. I beleive our kids deserve it also.

In Australia we had a gun buyback scheme after 35 people were killed in a mass shooting in Port Arthur Tasmania. Our then Prime Minister John Howard, brought in gun restriction laws. No automatic or semi automatic guns are sold in Australia.

Sorry for your loss but I have news for you. Trump is gonna do NOTHING for you. Neither are the republicans.

Time to raise the age to 21 to buy an semi automatic gun. And pass a mental background check or exam. This guy is right...I am gun owner. Enough is enough. poor guy...God Bless him and his family.

The weapons of MASS MURDER must be removed from the gun market..! NO civilian has a need for one of these weapons...!!

This guy makes sense. It's not about gun control it's about safety, make it safe. Post guards in, around, down the street, flood these schools with guards and the surrounding areas. It will also help with the drug traffic. Metal detectors would be good. Some guns can be hidden and will get past a guard. Random locker searches, lets see what these students are up to. People will say, you can't do that these kids have rights, they shouldn't be worried about their rights, they should be in school learning, period. If they don't like the added security oh well too bad.

The report function on fb really needs to have “suspected Russian bot” as one of the options. No sane REAL American could actually think these kids are actors. These type of accusers are the worst form of human excrement. #IStandWithTheKids

One idiot had a shoe bomb and I have to take my shoes off now every time I travel for the last 16 years. What’s so difficult ? Oh I know NRAs money.

Waiting for the gun nuts & dimwits to say, "he's rehearsed his lines" or that he's an actor trained by CNN.

He raised an excellent point about the Dept of Education has an armed guard in their elevator but there are none in schools. What kind of sense does that make?

Now this guy gets it. Finally they put someone intelligent on the News. All this talk about gun control is a waste of time. Should instead talk about getting better security in Schools. If you dont, this will keep being a rinse and repeat cycle.

I feel for him. I lost two members of my family in a shooting. The people who scream for guns have no idea what it's like.

Yes..and those on the suspected TERROR list can buy guns. This is a sick country controlled by a corrupt GOP.

If this poor grieving fathers words along with these brave kids doesn’t make a change, I don’t know what will. Although I said the same thing after 20 first graders were slaughtered.........Just fix it.

Horrified by the lack of compassion for these CHILDREN and their stories. They witnessed/survived a mass shooting and you are poking fun? Disgusted by the lack of humanity I see. Regardless of you support responsible gun laws or not, these are young adults and their families in crisis. Until it is your town, your kids...

What a moving and heart breaking thing to see and hear.. Yet these parents and siblings showed us all a remarkable strength and deep desire to see that no other family or community ever has to walk in their shoes. What an unbelievable show of transparency on the part of this administration to open the room to all of the world. To help us all hear from these brave people and to see his sincere desire to take action for all of our children. To open himself up for possible criticism is a demonstration of true leadership.

It is been a year since Trump put down an Obama law that make mandatory a mental health background check to everyone who wanted to buy a gun. It is ridiculous that someone can do that so easily.

Listening to this father was heartbreaking. I can't imagine his pain, and hopefully I'll never have to.

Congress better be listening. America is pissed. Parents are pissed. Students are pissed. Anybody that dismisses the students and tells them they have no place in politics has their head stuck in a big giant hole. They are rising up, finding their voice and are going to make you wish you had listened. Many will be 18 by the 2018 election and most will be 18 by 2020.
