Am I the only one that wanted to throw my hands in that pile and scoop up a bunch and throw it in the air and watch the wind blow it away !? Lol

I remember when I was really young, like 5 or 6, my family and I were at the local park watching my brother play baseball. My dad and I were sitting on the ground. There were some cattails in the area; my mom and I walked over to them. For some reason we had the idea to give my dad a cattail and say it was a corn dog. I don’t know if he really believed it, or if he was just going along with it to make me laugh. He really took a bite out of the cattail though and it was so funny because all that stuff was coming out of it lol. That’s a memory I’ll always keep with me. Pure innocence.

We used to line them up in the highway and hide, waiting for a vehicle to run over them! They pop like a balloon and the seeds are like smoke! Great fun for country kids.

They have to be dried out. They’ll snap when wet. They’re great to Bitch slap siblings with as well. Reminds me of home:)

When I was young, my mom had a vase full of them. They were there for several years...then one day they just EXPLODED! I thought it was hilarious...my mom...not so much! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Growing up we had a mean kid (bully) in the neighborhood, and we filled his car with these on a hot humid Minnesota day....it was more than pop goes the weasel πŸ€πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

You don't want to use them as decorations without treating them with something. ... they will explode in your house! !

My husbands great uncle had a mattress stuffed with cattails. Whenever he went to visit relatives he would ship it ahead to have it to sleep on there. Always took his mattress with him.

When I was a little girl I filled a pillowcase full and sewed up. I slept outside under the stars that night with it 😊.

I remember discovering that one summer..as a kid... In the back seat of a station wagon riding down the road... with a convertible behind us with the top down...had literally no idea until I heard yelling and looked up and it was a bunch of teens in bathing suits getting bombed with cat tail seeds 😳😱🀣

I think aerosolizing the whole pile with a leaf blower would be more satisfying! 😎

Near my house growing up was a pond with millions of cattails. I’d break a couple hundred and make piles to jump in. It’s a great memory.

I've heard Native Americans had many used for the fluff. Diapers for one. Used for fire starting is another.

One time we cut some cattails to bring home from No Cal and put them into our trunk! And they exploded in there! What a mess!

When I first moved to Oregon in the early 1960's I had picked some and had on display in a corner of my room. When it exploded it was years before I was able to not find one of those seeds, and I wondered why I was coughing so much ?

In the past...(900-1600) they broke them open to us as stuffing, would turn the fluff into a paste and use them for absorbent purposes such as menstrual pads and baby padding... before wipers diapers

When they’re young and still green or mostly green, you can sautΓ© them in butter. They taste a bit like artichoke. The shoots and tubers are good, too.

Yue Peng Vang When I was little, I thought these were legit corndogs.....like you can just grow corndogs and harvest them. πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ Was very disappointed when I finally came up close to one. Haha
